There was a time when I was scared of the future, but I was really trying to escape the past…
I woke up with nothing but time. And the sea.
The sea?
“Where the hell am I?”
I looked at my feet and sure enough the rivulets of the morning tide swayed about my ankles. The sun was beginning to rise and the air was warm. Warm. Moments ago I had felt cold, but that was another place. Or was it the same?
So familiar to my eyes, so alien to my heart, this place. This place. Where I stood. Alone. I saw her. The laughter as she plunged the knife into me. But something here was wrong. She had brought about only her destruction. I was still here — she was not.
Wherever I was, I was alive! She had failed. They all had failed.
I walked without knowing where I was heading. The beach was covered with feathers; my feathers, and I remembered… I felt the blood on my back where I ripped off my wings, and with it lost my immortality. The immortality that was my burden as an angel of destruction. I woke up with nothing but time; now it had meaning and value. I had given up everything to experience the one thing I needed.
You can watch forever and be immortal by fading away. You cannot die because you never lived.
Do what you can with your time and see it as valuable. See yourself as valuable. Don’t fear the past, because the past was as bad as it got. The future can be shaped when you’re alive.
